Religion aside...

Why is the Monster such an abomination? What is the humane solution of dealing with this living, intelligent creature? And who is really to blame in his creation? Frankenstein or society?

Good one--how do we deal with the "abominations" we have created? Embryos held in liquid nitrogen stasis, or children who under natural circumstances would have died, but due to medical intervention, tehy live--costing society untold dollars in dollars and resources--and they are never able to appreciate the life they have or contribute anyting back to society...we currently have a new strain of "Super TB" that has thrived due largely to the AIDS epidemic--had AIDS victims not lived so long, the super virus would not have had a chance to prosper--yet we have to deal with this issue--

i think the monster is an abomination because victor didnt know entirely what he was doing when he did this. i think the fault falls completely on victor's shoulders because he knew or at least should have thought about what could have happened when he started his experiment.

i like where Jeremy took this...the fact that he is an abomination is really because Frankenstein didn't really know what he was doing..and yes as i have previously mentioned that the fault lies with Dr. Frankenstein

An abomination? Is that what he is? Is the monster such a bad thing? Is it just because it's called a " MONSTER " we automatically assume that it's bad?

Frankenstein is to blame for it's creation... It was simply a scientific experiment.

Hey FEATIAEAOR--do we have the right to dismiss pain and sufferring as simply an experiment? Is teh knowledge worth the collateral damage?

I think Victor is to blame....he got into something without knowing what would end up happening. Now I'm sur he wishes he could start it all over or that it had never happened in the first place

But at the same time without horrible sacrifices you don't recieve any gain...During the Civil War many medical treatments were discovered while being used on dying patients...some of them were horrible...It seems crass, but if you don't experiment you get nowhere...From abomination you may get salvation

The answer is yes...what makes him inhuman? so that makes him a monster..i agree that Frankenstein is to blame but come on..he is monster, an experiment gone wrong, so yeah he is kinda bad..since death was involved with him...

very good statement...I will definitely have to say I agree with dcrat...without some mistakes and mis-haps that have happened throughout time, how would ever advance in life?

Back to what Mrs. C said, is society at fault? Was Victor experimenting for his own personal reasons or was it to fulfill that particular culture's needs? Whether his decision was considered unethical or not, there is going to be a lesson learned.. either good or bad. You choose.

So is it unethical to let what we could have learned (remember that some of our transplant experimentation comes from the concentration camps) go unrecognized since it was gained in an unethical setting? What Victor is doing is totally wrong--but who isn't excited about the idea of re-animating corpse? Think of the possibilities!
Anybody watch PainKiller Jane?

I completely agree with Whitney and with Chase on this one. He did it without actually knowing what he was getting into. This reminds me of Spiderman 2 (yeah I am a loser....) When Dr. Octavious thinks that he has accurately done his calculations correctly so that he can have the power of the Sun in his hands but he mis-calculates and really has no idea exactly what he is getting into and this is sort of the same thing. They both had no idea just what they were getting into.

It is almost worth the suffering because as explained earlier... there is no soul... just emotion...
is provoking emotion so bad?

The monster is an abomination because Victor just threw together this creation without any knowledge about what he was doing. I think that Victor is obviously to blame because no matter how ignorant he claimed to be, he knew that there was something not quite right about creating life from death.

Sure Frankenstein is to blame for the monster's creation; BUT there can be some good that comes out this. Like dcrat and Mrs. C. were saying, some known medical treatments that are being used today were complete experiments. Sure they might have been "inhumane" at times, but they work for the benefit of the world after a while.
